More Apples in Ethiopia

The Ammado article Apples in Ethiopia chronicles the 2006 efforts of Self Help Africa to import 3,800 apple rootstocks from Spain to be grafted in the Oromia region of Ethiopia.  These should start bearing this year and it will be interesting to see the results.

The more I poke around the more I find apples growing all over Africa.

People are storing apples for 2 years now, I’m not very impressed with super zombie fruit. Not to sure about 1-MCP chemical either.

  2. This year I bought a few E.G.G.s (ethylene gas guardians), little red egg-shaped gizmos with a packet inside of a chemical that absorbs ethylene gas. I put them in with my scionwood to see if that keeps it fresh longer; it will be interesting to see if it makes a difference.
