Calm Before the Storm

grafting

I received the confirmation letter this week from my rootstock supplier in Oregon that I’m allotted my full order.  It appears that there is a shortage of some dwarfing rootstocks as the industry switches over from big trees spaced far apart to tiny trees stuffed close together.

That means in about six weeks some big boxes will show up and rootstocks will fill the refrigerator, and I will start grafting my brains out trying to fill orders before spring has sprung.

There’s not much more I can do to prepare for it, and so we relax and enjoy Christmas, working on a Craftsman mantle for our bungalow.
